The Bloodless War

The Bloodless War

Scene 1. I am with a group of people. We are all making our way around a large city. While I know many of the people on the streets I am with another man. We are relatively aimless and just making our way through the neighbor hood. It is a calm two lane street with irregular multistory buildings. Mostly residential with a few shops spread around.

Scene 2. The mood changes and there is danger in the air. We are being invaded. There are groups of men that are walking and apprehending people.  There is a woman who has access to a flying machine. One for me and my friend. It is a small bright blue flying vehicle that is made for one person. You ride it like a motorcycle. It has no wings or protuberances on any sort. It is shaped roughly like a football that you sit on top. We begin to escape by flying around not much faster than walking speed.

Scene 3. I am not on my flyer. I am still trying to escape by climbing up a roof that is 3-4 stories in the air. It is an old slate roof. I make my way to the top, check something out and need to return. I see that there are two garden hoses coming from the to of the roof, down a seam and over the gutter. I grab one and make my way back down. The hose is no attached to anything and starts to get pulled down as I hold on, but I am not worried. I gently slide down the slate shingles and come to rest in the corner were two roof sections meet, just at the gutter. I come to a gentle stop.

Scene 4. I am walking with the woman as I show her the neighborhood. We stop at a gas station with a market. There are sheep in pen out front. They have elaborately dyed wool is swirling patterns. I spend sometime explaining to her the intricacies of how this process is done. It is a local unique craft.

Scene 5. I am back on the flying machine and I see the woman again. I sense she is concerned. Apparently the invaders were her people but now they have been defeated and she is worried about her safety. I ask her if she wants her flyer back. She says yes and I thank her and return it to her.

Scene 6. I am walking with the woman and we discuss her coming home with me and being introduced to my people. She is concerned about her acceptance but willing and thankful. We walk toward my home somewhat apprehensive but  relieved. I wake up.

Notes. When I woke I had only a vague recollection of a complex multi-scene dream. I remembered the details of one scene and then it came back to me. I was relieved and thankful. As I am writing this I am thinking about Michelle (young black woman) and the animosity between republicans and democrats right now. Donald Trump and created enemy camps.

What is the dream telling me? That people can be on the other side of a conflict but still help each other as individuals.

What am I going to try and do about it? Keep this in mind as I hate the ideas that Trump is espousing but remain cognizant that any Trump supporter that I encounter personally can potentially be a friend on some level.  An example of this is when soldiers came back from the Vietnam war they were vilified by the antiwar protesters. When soldiers came back from Iraq and Iran they were treated with respect even though the wars were very unpopular. We separated the war from those doing their duty.

I want to discuss this at the next Carrboro Dreamers meeting.
